Taquile

I had known for weeks that my parents had planned to stay on a floating island for a night. Today was the day we went. We took a night bus for about 12 hours which took us to Puno which is a crappy polluted town in Peru. We waited at the bus station there for a man who would pick us up and take us to the docks. When he arrived we had breakfast and then left and took these bicycle taxis. We knew their island would be nothing fancy, no bikes, no cars, not much, but enough. When we got to the docks we waited on the boat for about two hours and then finally it took off. We drove for about an hour and a half before stopping at Lake Titicaca's famous floating islands. To build the island they build up some dirt in sections and then put some straw on top of it criss-crossed until you can walk on it. I got a necklace and then we got back on the boat.
When we finally arrived we had to hike ten minutes up a mountain. But this was not a floating island. We saw their house, it was actually pretty large. We saw where we were going to sleep and then found the worst part of all...CHICO THE ROOSTER!!!
He was not so bad at first but he later became grumpy. When Maeve walked out of our lair to use the bathroom Chico cornered her in the mud and attacked her with his claws. She screamed and my parents got angry because she "over reacted." We later learned to fear Chico. That night wasn't so bad but the morning Chico screamed for hours. When we left I didn't know whether to be happy or sad. I think it was a good experience. It was weird to think that there are so many islands like this with great spirit and this one is just going with the flo✌️.
