Fly Fishing in Chile

Liam and I took the opportunity to go salmon fishing while we were staying in Pucon. We didn't know exactly what to expect, but figured it would be a great experience based on the beauty of the rivers and the warmth of the people. We walked to the outfitters. A driver picked us up and brought us to a flyfishing shop where we met our guide and hooked up a trailer that carried the raft. We drove for about 45 minutes along a highway and then along a dirt road until we came to the river. We dropped the boat in and hopped aboard with the guide. The driver left and reappeared downstream at the end of the day to recover us and the boat.

I was just glad to be on the river. I know how difficult it is to catch a salmon, but hoped that conditions and the skill of the guide would contribute to our success. Liam was amazing and continues to take on any adventure without hesitation. The guide watched us cast for about 20 minutes before pulling the raft over to a clearing to make us practise on shore. I was a little rusty and Liam had no history at all with a fly rod. After a short tutorial, we hopped aboard again. The guide was very skilled and patient. Safely navigating the raft down the river while giving us great access to the approaching fishing holes was quite a challenge. No salmon that day, but we still had a great time.
