A couple of observations about road signs in Costa Rica. There are not enough of them along many stretches of roads. It was not uncommon to come to a fork in the road with no signage at all. Make your best guess. Other roads had too many signs apparently installed by different authorities. One sign might say 10 km to Monteverde while another sign 100 m further down the road might say 15 km. It is not a large country and considering the number of tourists that travel through it, I would recommend that some state resources be directed towards a comprehensive review of the road signage. I could do it in a month - just give me a 4x4 and a bottle of gravol.
